Travelogue
The adventurous way to reach Ephesus for someone who trusts a little fitness and has clothes suitable for the land, is to visit the Virgin Mary's House by climbing the slope of Mount Bülbül, from the south of the Magnezia gate, which is the eastern gate of the city walls, and Koressos, which is inside the city walls. We start by turning 170 meters right in front of the door of the Çamlık locomotive museum in Selçuk and passing through olive roads, forest paths, streams and village roads, we come to the Virgin Mary's house. A historical stone building in a green world and among trees. Visitors are waiting in line to enter through a small door, those who light wish candles outside, gather people of all faiths here with the fountain considered to be healing, and many tied messages on the wall. Leaving the house of the Virgin Mary, we enter the forest paths towards Ephesus, which is our main goal. Our destination is the southern gate of Ephesus. The magnificent walls of Lysimachus, which are four-pointed bastions, are on the summit. Though thorny bushes hurt, it's worth it for cyclamens, orchids in the spring. The ridge gradually descends and the fortification ends beyond the St Paul's Tower next to the old harbor. Upon entering the interior, the marble paved road from the harbor to the theater, repaired by Emperor Arcadius, is visible. If you are a visitor just to see the ancient city of Ephesus, you enter the main entrance to the north of the site, the second entrance of the city of Ephesus, through the lower gate and the road between the high trees and enter the classical marble road and immediately approach the theater. The Theater, which is right in front of you, is seated on the slope of Pion Mountain. I shot a mini promotional film promoting the ancient city of Ephesus, following this route, upon the request of a friend who made touristic tours one summer afternoon. Like tourists from all over the world, I could not get enough of taking pictures. The promise of a great view, which is a reward for those who climb the upper stairs of the amphitheater, especially when the sun is short, drives the shutters. Turning right from the marble street with high sidewalks on both sides, you will encounter structures such as the love house and the Hadrianus temple on the kurets street. Turning to the right, however, in the opposite direction, a famous and magnificent ancient library Celsius catches the eye. When you climb the stairs in front of the library, behind the columns in front; You should see 4 statues of women representing reason, science, destiny and virtue. The mosaic pavement at the beginning of the Kuretler Street is very interesting. Ephesus, a Unesco heritage, invites you to a time travel with its at least 6000-year-old settlement Ayasuluk castle and its traces from the last Roman period.
