Travelogue
I remember the Netherlands as a country on the water from a young age. We heard that there were huge walls and barriers between the sea and land so that the sea would not enter the interior. Later it was the land of red tulips for me. With their faces and clothes painted in orange colors, they had a place in my memory with their fanatical Dutch fans and cyclists on the streets. Will our discoveries on our Dutch tour over the years change these old images? Come on, let's tour the Netherlands.
Our beloved son Atlas, when he was only 4 months old, we embarked on this trip and we tried to learn what it is to travel with a baby and we will try to explain it to you. We traveled from Izmir to the Netherlands as a family. Our first stop was Amsterdam. We found a hotel near Amsterdam from Booking.com and reserved for a night. We'd prefer Ibis hotels in European countries, usually their staffs are polite and room is clean and tidy. Ibis budget Amsterdam Zaandam was good at well location, only 5 minutes away from Amsterdam station and one station to Zaandam city by bus. Reception staff are also very helpful to buy bus tickets
First of all, I'm not mistaken about bicycles, there are enough cyclists to be careful about your walking. Rent and explore by bike if you wish. Cheese, is the crown of breakfast in Turkey, but you will buy delicious cheese from the gift shop as you will encounter the famous Dutch cheese shops.
Sometimes we walked the streets and avenues of Amsterdam, which gives the atmosphere of a medieval city with our baby Atlas, in our kangaroo bag, sometimes in a stroller. If you are interested, see the Red light district, which in our opinion is a liberal district. It is an interesting place where sexy costumed girls look through window displays and drugs are freely sold on the streets.
Democratic monarchy, the Netherlands, which is still ruled by the Kingdom, is famous for its 450-year-old royal palace in Amsterdam's Damn square. The palace, known as the Koninklijk Paleis, is located directly opposite the national monument erected in memory of the victims of the 2nd world war. Again, I recommend you to see Madame Tussauds museum in this square. On the online web page, they offer the ticket at a more discount than the door. There are wax sculptures in the museum, for example you would have a selfie moment with the Dalai Lama or Beyonce.
We had a lot of fun traveling with our baby in this city, which is quite liberal for us, but there is a good official or natural rule; While we were walking around Rembrandtplein square, we did not allow our baby to sit in whichever cafe we wanted to sit because of exhaustion, as the drug use was free around us.
Finally, my suggestion to those who want to buy the colorful flowers and seeds of the Netherlands, which is known as the country of tulips, is to see the Bloemenmarkt, the flower market.
Leaving Amsterdam behind, we pass to Zaandam, which is 10-15 minutes away. Our aim was to see Zaanse Schans village, famous for its windmills. We have seen a town with nostalgic and thematic sides, windmills, houses that make cheese in traditional way. About half our days was enough to sighseeing around. After came back to Amsterdam from Zaanse Schans, stayed in Golfhotel Amsterdam Purmerend from Booking.com because the ibis hotel had no available room for 3 adults and 1 child.
Volendaam, 23 km northwest of Amsterdam, became the next destination. We felt it was a thematic town-like place that had to be seen in the Netherlands before. Yes, exactly, there is even a fishing town and a cheese factory museum. There are fairy-tale village houses around which there are canals. The fishermen's houses, where we are full of greenery, the port with local boats on the shore, made the traditional Dutch spirit felt. If you want to eat and drink something like seafood, it's good to go to Dijk.
