Travelogue

I had planned a long trip to South Asia last year which starts from Philippines and ends with Indonesia. Thanks to my luck, the first Covid case showed up in the country nearly one week after my arriving and domestic flights were suspended. Yes you heard it right, this decision was taken after a single case. We tourists were in a pretty hard situation. Therefore, the entire plan was cancelled and I had to leave Philippines before visiting it. (I was very glad to able to return though, that was totally an another story!)

At least I had a chance to see some places in the country and visit Boracay Island before searching the international flights madly. But I’ve bored you enough with these stuff, let’s dive into Boracay now!

Just one of the ordinary beauties of Philippines, Boracay was my first stop in the country. I’d enjoyed 3 full days in the island. Famous with its jaw-dropping sunsets, Boracay welcomed me perfectly on my way from Manila, with a wonderful sunset among the clouds.

After landing, I was picked up by my transfer and arrived to my accommodation in the evening. After a quick preparation I left my room and threw myself out the Boracay streets.

You are immediately drawn into the classic island atmosphere. Walking through the streets is quite enjoying, the island is full of vibrant! After a short walk, I took a side alley that leads to the beach, known as D’Mall where you can meet lots of clothing and souvenir shops, many restaurants and ice cream shops.

I found myself in the beach after going straight down the passage. The beach is full of life! A lot of people are enjoying the live music, chilling, doing their night walk, eating dinner and listening the sounds of waves..

The ambience was just so beautiful.

I’m not gonna lie, I fell in love with that island in just first minutes. I was very happy that I was standing there at that time and witnessed to its vivid night.

I chose a restaurant which has a cool live music. I fed my hungry stomach while I was enjoying the moments. Then I did my favorite thing which I always do in the tropical places: Going for a long walk in the beach. Stepping on the pure white sands at that time.. It just couldn’t get any better than this!

It was literally heaven.

When the first lights came up and the sun reveals itself, that heaven clearly appeared. It wasn’t so hard to understand why Boracay is so much famous after seeing stunning view of the powdery white sands and turquoise blue water combine. I spend the whole day in White Beach. Also I encountered the green algae caused by nutrient pollution. Then I collected my stuff and started walking in the beach, because it was sunset time.

The sky was getting better and better and the clouds gets its colors more and more thanks to the reflections of light. It wouldn’t be a lie, if I said that I witnessed stunning sunsets in all the evenings and didn’t spend a single one.

Before the day I left, I saw a marvelous sunset, the sky was divided into colors. The whole sky was literally a rainbow, there wasn’t any color missing! Outstanding sceneries came up with the lovely blue sailing ships and boats. Everyone had enjoyed these magical moments, I felt like that I was in a fairytale.

There is nothing more than beaches in Boracay and all these beaches are simply competing with each other. White Beach is the most popular one, the main beach of Boracay. The other famous beaches of the island are named as Diniwid, Bulabog, Puka Shell and Ilig-Iligan. Additionally, you can fully enjoy swimming and walking in Crystal Cove Island which is only accessed by a boat.

As an island country, Philippines is an endless paradise when it comes to scuba diving. There are tons of tourists come to the islands just for diving. Philippines is one of the most chosen countries with its magnificent rich underwater. The time you put your head under the water, you can be absolutely sure that you will meet an entire different world.

The famous diving spots in Philippines are Coron & Palawan, Batangas and Moalboal. But of course Boracay has its own scuba diving areas. Some of them are; Angol Point, Hinugtan, Punta Bunga, Crocodile Island and Laguna de Boracay.

By the way, I have to say couple of words about Filipino people. They were one of the kindest and lovely people I have ever met. Even though they didn’t understand you fully, they still wanna help. So don’t worry, you can definitely relax about traveling in Philippines, it is quite safe!

Due to the unfortunate circumstances, I left Boracay with a little bit stress and flied to Cebu. But this magnificent island not only greeted me in a very lovely way but also said goodbye to me very nicely. Although I have been in Boracay in very tough times, I had never regretted my trip. Boracay is waiting for you with crystal clear blueish waters and silky soft sands!

Local Guide

WHITE BEACH: The famous beach of the island, White Beach gets its name from snow-white sands. It has 3 main areas, each one is named station. You can enjoy the full day here where the palm trees lining up side by side and the sunsets are unique, eat in the restaurants and buy anything you need from the near shops. Believe me, walking along the stations is a very pleasant way to enjoy the night.

D’MALL: One of the most known places for shopping in Boracay. Not quite long, but exploring this area at nights is very exciting. Besides lots of restaurants for chilling, you can also get the necessary equipment for diving. in the shops here. Additionally you have the option of getting a massage.

PUKA SHELL BEACH: Located in the north, away from central this beach has fewer tourists compare to other ones. If you don’t want to get caught by the crowd and enjoy the tranquility, then Puka Shell Beach is your type of dish.

DINIWID BEACH: Easy access with a short quick walk to White Beach and ideal place for the ones who are seeking for calm moments, you can enjoy the waters of Diniwid Beach, chill out in the peaceful surroundings and watch the catamarans touring the tourists.

BULABOG BEACH: Accommodation is way cheaper in Bulabog Beach which is the favorite beach of kitesurfers, for its tough wind. If you don’t interested in kitesurfing and if you’re a calm sea lover, I am afraid this isn’t the right place for you.

MOUNT LUHO VIEW DECK: Having the most beautiful view of the island, walking to Mount Luho summit will be a great attraction for hike lovers. On the other hand, it can be reached with motorbike. If you have time, you must definitely give a shot. But sometimes the viewing deck can be closed, check this in advance.

CRYSTAL COVE ISLAND: Only accessed via boats, Crystal Cove Island is very close to Boracay. Swimming & diving in the cave and taking a little tour in the island are just some of the attractions. Also the island homes to a little museum which contains tons of seashells collected from many places in Philippines.
